Notes:

Pipe taps do not refer to any physical dimensions. The outside diameter of a pipe thread or fitting must be measured and compared to a table for size identification (see Thread OD above).

Tapered threads = 1° 47'
Truncation of roots and crests are flat
60° thread angle
Pitch is measured in threads per inch

Never use liquid sealants for NPT threads in plastic as this will cause crazing or cracking. Use teflon tape instead.

To determine tap drill size for special threads, use the following formula:

TAP DRILL SIZE = DIA - (.974 / PITCH)

  EXAMPLE: 3/8-32
  .375 - (.974 / 32) = .345
  USE DRILL SIZE CLOSEST TO .345
