Attaching files to email
If you have a drawing you wish to send us through the internet, most email programs (such as Netscape Navigator and Outlook Express) allow you to attach files to email messages.
MicroAdvances accepts drawings in the following graphic formats:
- DXF
- IGES
- GIF
- JPEG
- TIFF
- PCX
- PICT
- VLM (Vellum)
- VC6
- Convert your files into ZIP files
The most common format for engineering drawings is DXF and IGES. However, problems can occur when attaching raw DXF or raw IGES files to email messages. DXF and IGES are actually text (ASCII) files. Most email programs don't actually attach the text file itself, but rather appends the entire text into the email message itself. This can result in mixing text with DXF data into a single email message. Thus, attaching DXF or IGES files directly to email messages can result in confusion and extra time spent trying to separate the drawing data from the email message.
Instead of attaching raw files to your email message, opt to compress your file into a ZIP (or SIT file for Macintosh). Then attach the zip file to your email message.
